It’s hard not to miss the amazing growing belly (it’s a girl) on Melisa! Although you would never guess given her dedication to continuing CrossFit and kicking ass every WOD! That’s why Melisa is our Female Athlete of the Month for July!
CFB: Tell us about yourself (family, job, sports, interests etc)?
Devon and I moved to Ballwin in November of 2016 from Springfield, MO. We were ready to be closer to my family so we could eventually start a family of our own. Boy we were not expecting our little family to grow so fast. ☺ Our first little blessing is on the way. She is expected to be here September 23rd. She has already changed our lives so much!
CFB: When did you start CrossFit?
Devon and I have been married 5 years. The year we got married, Devon asked what I wanted for my birthday, well of course, I wanted to start crossfit and for him to join me. That is when I found my passion for crossfit. From that point forward, crossfit has been a staple in my life (a different story for Devon). We were a part of the Crossfit Springfield community until we moved here. I learned to love the excitement to compete in competitions. I have competed in 8 competitions over the last 2 years. It is amazing what someone can do when adrenalin is ramped up. Standing on the podium made me realize all of the hard work does pay off.
CFB: What were you thinking/feeling after your first CrossFit WOD?
It’s amazing how a workout of only a few minutes can kick your butt so much!
CFB: What is your favorite WOD?
Generally any WOD we get to move around some weight is a favorite. A recent favorite would be ground to overhead, where every minute we added a rep until we couldn’t complete the reps during the minute. It was fun to push and keep adding reps.
CFB: Least favorite WOD?
Least favorite WOD would be the first time I used an assault bike. It was a partner workout of 21/15/9 reps of thrusters and burpees (which doesn’t sound too bad), but while partner A was doing their 21 thrusters and burpees, partner B was doing max calories on the bike, then switch. The score was the total calories. Talk about a leg burner!
CFB: What is your favorite WOD song?
I do not have a favorite WOD song; anything that is up-beat. It is hard to work out to Johnny Cash. ☺
CFB: Do you ever get competitive with each other in WODs?
I tend to get competitive with myself a lot. I like to see how far I can push my limits.
CFB: What is your favorite quote?
Live Life to the Fullest
CFB: What is something about you that your fellow members wouldn’t know?
I grew up in Farmington, MO and worked at Better Bodies Fitness for 5 years. There I found a love for fitness and helping people. That was my favorite job. I loved helping people with their workouts and reaching their goals. Why I went to college for Accounting is beyond me. Once I was finished with my accounting degree, my first job out of college was TERRIBLE! At that point I knew, I could not do that for the rest of my life. I went back to college for a Masters of Health Administration and ended up in Human Resources. I still get to help people just not with their fitness needs.
CFB: How has CrossFit affected your life outside the gym?
For me, working out is a stress reliever and a necessity. With all the craziness at work and home, CrossFit helps me keep my sanity!
CFB: If you could write a WOD tailored to you, what would it be?
A WOD tailored for me would be any rep scheme that includes power cleans or clean and jerks, as well as double unders. Clean and Jerks are my favorite. ☺
CFB: What is your favorite thing about CFB?
I love CFB! The community is fantastic! The members and coaches are my favorite. Walking into a new gym can be intimidating, but everyone is so kind and accepting. We have felt welcomed since day 1.
